The Minneapolis Sculpture Garden Art Fair takes place in a park that is home to over 40 permanent sculptures by renowned artists.

“We are delighted to introduce the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden Art Fair as a new tradition celebrating art, mothers, and community. This event offers a wonderful opportunity for families to come together and create lasting memories,” said Jill Hayes.

Hayes and her husband, Ben Cooney, are the co-founders and directors of Homespun Events. They began their journey in the Minnesota art community as artists themselves.

After participating in high-quality local art fairs for several years in the Twin Cities, they wondered why art fairs had never been hosted in two of Minneapolis’ most iconic parks: Minnehaha Falls and Minneapolis Sculpture Garden. So, they set off to create them — launching Minnehaha Falls Art Fair in 2019 and Minneapolis Sculpture Garden Art Fair in 2024.

The sculpture garden show features artwork across 24 juried medium categories. The sales artists made at 2024’s event — the show’s inaugural year — put it at the top of the Fine Art & Design category in Sunshine Artist’s 200 Best for 2025.

“Being voted the top fine art show in our very first year is incredibly humbling and deeply meaningful. It’s truly a testament to the vibrant, art-loving community we have here in Minneapolis, one that shows up wholeheartedly to support creativity and connection,” Cooney said.

Hayes said, “This recognition is also a tribute to the incredible artists who brought their talent, passion, and presence to the fair. Their work and their genuine engagement with visitors created an unforgettable experience. We’re honored to have hosted them in such an iconic space and grateful to everyone who helped make the inaugural year such a success.”

Homespun Events said the success of 2024’s show came down to two things: the exceptional quality of the artists and the one-of-a-kind setting. “Hosting the art fair in this beloved space created an inspiring and elevated environment that naturally drew in art lovers and collectors alike. It was a joy and honor to fill the space with so many talented artists of the present day,” said Events Manager Nichole Showalter.

Artists and attendees commented on how it did not feel like a first-year event, but rather a well-established celebration of art and community in one of the most beautiful spaces in the city. The highly competitive artist selection process resulted in an incredibly strong and diverse lineup.

“From painting and sculpture to ceramics and mixed media, the range of work was both broad and refined. Visitors responded enthusiastically, not just to the beauty of the setting, but to the caliber and originality of the work. Artists saw strong sales because the event connected them with an engaged, appreciative audience in a space that celebrates creativity year-round,” Cooney said.

Their jury process is designed to ensure a high caliber and well-balanced show across all mediums. A single panel of jurors, made up of experienced arts professionals and practicing artists, reviews every application. Each artist is scored on a scale from 1 to 10 based on such criteria as originality, craftsmanship, artistic vision, and overall presentation.

Once scoring is complete, the averages are calculated, and the highest-scoring artists in each medium are invited to exhibit. This approach helps maintain both excellence and diversity, ensuring a mix of styles and disciplines.

Creating a supportive and enjoyable experience for artists is a priority. Artist amenities include complimentary coffee and snacks throughout the day and booth sitters. The small, meaningful touches ensure artists can fully engage with attendees and highlight their work at its best.

Three juried awards are presented: Best in Show, Best Booth Presentation, and Most Engaging Artist. Each winner receives automatic acceptance to the following year’s fair and 50% off their booth fee.

Beyond the art, the fair was designed with community and connections in mind. It features a curated Botanical Marketplace where botanical-themed art, floral arrangements, and unique plants and planters are offered by artisans, florists, and plant sellers. In addition, the show includes hands-on activities, interactive artist booths, music, and food.

Artists of all mediums and experience levels are encouraged to apply, especially those excited to be part of a show that values artistic excellence and community connection. With a competitive jury process, high-quality images, a carefully curated booth shot, a clear artist statement, and a cohesive body of work help an application stand out.

Homespun Events is committed to growing the fair into a nationally recognized, artist-forward tradition. “Whether you’re a seasoned exhibitor or emerging talent, if you’re looking for a show that values both artistic excellence and human connection, this is the place for you. We can’t wait to welcome you,” Showalter said.
